On Saturday, August 8, 2015, the Burbank Non-Profit Coalition hosted its annual “Back To School Fair.” More than 500 children and their families attended the event at the Burbank Housing Corporation.
“Since 2004, this event has provided children and their parents an opportunity to learn about so many great services in Burbank,” said Shanna Warren, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank and Greater East Valley and a member of the Burbank Non-Profit Coalition.
Once again this year, Kiwanis For Fun served a pancake breakfast at no cost. Marinello School of Beauty donated free haircuts and the Kids Community Dental Clinic and Kidsight provided free dental and vision screenings.
In addition to the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank and GEV, other participants included the Burbank Fire Department, the Burbank Police Department, Burbank Council PTA, Burbank Arts For All, the Burbank Community YMCA, Burbank Coordinating Council, Family Promise, Burbank Public Library, Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, Burbank Temporary Aid Center, Pet Adventure and the Media City Credit Union, South Hills Church,
Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc., Walmart and Premier America Credit Union donated school supplies and IBEW and Burbank Water & Power donated power to the event.
Through generous contributions, almost 500 backpacks, stuffed with school supplies were distributed to the school-aged children in attendance.
This event is made possible through the efforts and contributions of the members of the Nonprofit Coalition, such as the Burbank Housing Corporation, the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank and GEV, BTAC, Arts For All, the Burbank Community YMCA, the Coordinating Council and others.
A special thank you to Judith Arandes and the entire Burbank Housing Corporation staff for their hard work to make this event so successful.
In 2004, the City of Burbank and the Burbank Housing Corporation (BHC) created this event with the goal of preparing children from lower income households for school. For the last decade this group with the support and generosity of other Burbank organizations, has succeeded in making sure at-risk kids get a great start to the new school year.
