A 30-year-old woman was arrested by police after threatening a local dance supply store owner and employee with scissors Tuesday afternoon, April 29.

BPD New Police Car -2Originally, the situation was a shoplifting case, said Lt. Eduardo Ruiz of the Burbank Police Department. The suspect, Ashlee Meleskie, took four items of clothing, including leggings and shorts worth about $100, from Karabel Dancewear at 3091 W. Magnolia Boulevard around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

When the store owner and an employee confronted Meleskie outside the shop, Meleskie allegedly threatened the duo with a pair of scissors and walked away, according to Ruiz.

Police responded and canvassed the area. Following a very clear description of the suspect, who was wearing a dark blue sweatshirt and shorts and carrying a pink handbag, police located her a few blocks away at Chandler Boulevard and Avon Street.

Officers recovered the stolen items and the scissors from Meleskie’s possession. Meleskie was positively identified by two witnesses. She was arrested for violations of penal codes 211 and 245, for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, added Ruiz.

No further information is available on the incident or the suspect at this time, said police.
