An 18-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested by police for setting fire to a Pringles can in an alley near Alameda Avenue and Shelton St. on Wednesday, April 23. Around 8:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area when a neighborhood resident called in to alert police.

BPD police Car Logo-2The suspect, Brian Parker, had been going door-to-door in the neighborhood selling chocolates when a resident witnessed him set fire to an item of trash in the alley, according to Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department.

The witness ran outside, stomped out the fire and watched the suspect walk to the nearby El Pollo Loco at 1150 W. Alameda Avenue, added Ryburn.

Police, following a clear description from the witness, found the suspect at El Pollo Loco. While talking with Parker, officers noticed small burn marks on the table at which he was sitting. It looked like he had lit small pieces of paper on fire on the tabletop and let them burn, said Ryburn.

Parker told police he had been dropped off in the area to sell chocolates as a door-to-door salesman by a company that was not identified in the police report.

Police arrested Parker for arson and possession of metal knuckles. He remains in custody at the Burbank Jail on a $50,000 bail. He is due in court tomorrow.

“It’s things like this, where our neighbors get involved and call us, that is so helpful,” stressed Ryburn. “The witness gave us a good description and watched where the suspect went.”

“We have to thank our residents for being observant,” Ryburn commented.
