On the morning of December 26, Burbank Police responded to a call about possible trespassing at a residence on the 1600 block of N. Rose St. and ultimately took two into custody for allegedly stealing several items from the residence. Myrna Breeker, age 41, and Miguel Herrera, age 40, both of San Pedro, were arrested for grand theft after officers discovered items missing from the residence in the suspects’ car.
Officers went to the house in question at 10:00 a.m., after the female victim reported the locks had been changed on her house and two people were inside the residence. The house on N. Rose St. is in process of being sold as a short sale and the victim had moved out in November to another residence. The victim had been removing personal property over the past month, and had returned to the residence on December 26 to move more items.
According to Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department, when the victim tried to open the front door with her key that morning, the key wouldn’t work and two people answered the door, Breeker and Herrera. Breeker and Herrera initially stated they had paid $3000 to lease the house from a third party. The female victim, whose previous visit to the residence was 2 and 1/2 weeks ago, noted to officers that several items were missing from the residence, including 3 electric guitars, 2 acoustic guitars, 2 laptops, an amplifier and miscellaneous jewelry.
Officers initially thought Breeker and Herrera were also victims and were going to allow them to leave in their car, but asked to search the vehicle before they left. Officers found 2 guitars in the trunk of the suspects’ vehicle. After a further search of the car, police found the amplifier, jewelry and clothing the victim identified as her property missing from the residence.
Upon closer inspection of the lease document Breeker and Herrera presented to officers, it was determined to be fraudulent. Their vehicle was impounded. Breeker and Herrera were arrested for grand theft and are due in court on Monday, December 30. They are each being held on $20,000 bail and remain in custody at the Burbank Jail.
