The Burbank Police Department received calls about a large amount of water bubbling from the middle of the street at Niagara Street and Olive Avenue around 1:00 a.m., early this morning, December 7. Officers responded and found what appeared to be a broken water main undermining the street at Olive and Niagara and causing the flood of water.

Alameda St. and Olive Ave. in front of The Burbank Studios were closed in the easterly direction and traffic diverted in case the street would start to collapse and a sinkhole form, for the safety of anyone in the area.

Burbank Water & Power emergency crews were called out to shut off several water mains leading into the grid that supplies the water in the area as Burbank Police provided street closures. Once the flow started to reside, additional crews from BWP responded to clean up the mud that closed Alameda Ave. near Niagara St.

While some crews cleared mud, additional crews from BWP excavated the area where the main seemed to be broken.

The street was undermined in all directions at the intersection of Olive Ave. and Niagara St. and crews continue to make the necessary repairs throughout the morning today.

Traffic lanes will be reduced in the area as well, while repairs to the 8-inch water main are made.
