Burbank Police took four auto burglary reports on April 27, 2016 that took place in the 500 and 600 blocks of E. Angeleno Avenue, and the 300 block of S. San Fernando Boulevard. The suspects smashed the windows of the vehicles to gain entry and steal contents, including backpacks, clothing, computers, personal documents and athletic gear.
The officer taking the reports was able to review surveillance footage at one of the scenes, which captured two suspects in the subterranean parking garage walking away with loot from a victim’s car. The surveillance footage also captured the suspect vehicle and a license plate.
On April 28, investigators located the suspect vehicle in Burbank and initiated a surveillance.
Two suspects, identified as 18 year-old Bryan Mendez and 23 year-old Crystal Luna both of Los Angeles, were detained during a traffic stop, at which time it was found the vehicle was stolen out of Los Angeles.
A search of the suspect vehicle revealed stolen property from auto burglaries in Burbank, Santa Clarita and Los Angeles. Detectives are still working to return the stolen property back to the rightful owners. In addition to recovering numerous items of stolen property, methamphetamine and marijuana was also seized.
Mendez and Luna were booked into the Burbank City Jail. Both suspects have since been charged with identity theft, burglary, receiving stolen property and possession of methamphetamine. In addition, Luna was charged with taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
The Burbank Police Department wants to remind the community to remove valuables and lock their vehicles. You are less likely to be a victim of an auto burglary if you hide or remove your property and lock your doors.
