As Burbank Unified’s students begin a new school year this Monday, August 17, BUSD and Burbank Police remind parents, students, caregivers and members of the Burbank community to follow some important traffic safety tips.
“Traffic safety around our schools is everyone’s responsibility,” said Sergeant Claudio Losacco of the Burbank Police Department. “By following a few simple rules, parents can assist the Burbank Police Department in creating a safe environment for our schools, students, faculty and parents.”
In automated calls to students’ homes on Sunday evening, principals reminded parents to arrive early if possible. Traffic congestion will be very heavy around schools closer to the start of classes.

Do’s:
- Be patient in heavy traffic, slow down, plan ahead, and arrive early
- Use the safe delivery/valet drop-off area
- Have your children exit your vehicle on the right side (sidewalk side) away from anymoving vehicles. Please remember to pull to the curb.
- Stay alert; refrain from using cell phones or anything else that may distract you
- Park your car in the appropriate areas; obey posted parking restrictions
- Obey all traffic laws
Don’ts:
- Park and leave your vehicle in the delivery/valet drop-off area
- Stop your vehicle in the middle of the street to let your child in or out of thevehicle.
- Walk between vehicles in the drop-off and pick-up area
- Allow your child to cross the street outside of the designated crossing area
- Pass vehicles on the wrong side of the street
Safety Tips:
- Park your vehicle away from the school and walk your child to school
- Cross at corners and use the crossing guards to assist
- Plan ahead; arrive early
