Baseball

Burroughs 5 Burbank 1 (see story)

The Indians won their seventh straight game and 13 of their last 14 contests behind a superb pitching effort from Danny Bustos and Max DeAmicis. Burroughs gained a point in the myBurbank CUP race.

Burroughs 4 Pasadena 2

The Indians avenged their lone loss in league with a solid defensive effort. While the Bulldogs couldn’t play catch (three throwing errors), Burroughs made routine plays look easy and spectacular plays look routine. Max Haddad’s splendid off-balance throw to first base finished the game and ended any possible comeback by Pasadena. On the hill, Thomas Wilson settled in after giving up two runs in the second and threw six innings allowing five hits and striking out five. Max DeAmicis recorded the save. Aidan Anding had two RBIs and Roy Hirota had two of the four Indian hits on the afternoon.

Glendale 7 Burbank 3

Ryan Porras had three hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs but it wasn’t enough as the Nitros jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings en route to the win.

Burroughs 9 Arcadia 0

Danny Bustos had another dominating outing as he pitched a complete game 3-hit shutout walking none and striking out four. He threw a total of 64 pitches including 49 for strikes. Tyler Lewis went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two doubles and Chris Peres drove in three runs. Lewis, Max Haddad and Max DeAmicis each scored two runs. Lewis’ double and Peres’ single in the first inning plated two runs each for the Indians who scored four runs in the first and fifth innings to maintain their hold on to first place.

Burbank 4 Hoover 2

Ryan Porras had a strong outing going six innings and giving up three hits and striking out eight. Alex Minnick collected two hits and Randy Higgens drove home two runs to propel the Bulldogs. Burbank scored two runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie.

Burroughs 28 Muir 0 (five innings)

*This is NOT a misprint. Thomas Wilson threw a no-hitter in a game called after five innings. He struck out 10 and walked only one. The Indians led 13-0 after the first inning, 22-0 after two innings and banged out 21 hits. Max DeAmicis drove home 4 RBIs on 3 hits and scored 3 runs; Chris Peres and Roy Hirota each had 3 RBIs and Ryan Galan had 3 hits and scored 4 runs in the rout of the Mustangs.

Crescenta Valley 6 Burbank 0

The Bulldogs were limited to three hits and struck out 12 times against CV star and UCLA-bound Brian Gadsby. The Falcons scored twice in three different innings to stymie host Burbank.

Softball

Burbank 8 Burroughs 0 (see story)

Caitlyn Brooks wins her 76th career game tossing a complete game two-hit shutout as the Lady Bulldogs move into sole possession of first place with the big win over the Lady Indians. The victory was the 36th in a row in league for Burbank who gained a point in the myBurbank CUP.

Burbank 7 Glendale 0

Caitlyn Brooks won her 75th career victory in the circle in dominating fashion. She struck out 16 Nitros, gave up just two hits and only one walk as she posted her fifth consecutive shutout. Brooks also went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and RBI. Isabel Frias was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. The Lady Bulldogs mashed out 17 hits on the day including seven starters with at least two hits apiece.

Burroughs 7 Pasadena 0

Presley Miraglia continued her torrid pitching throwing a shutout giving up only two hits. Michelle Santiago had two hits and scored two runs and Miraglia and Kaitlin Okimoto each recorded two hits. The Lady Indians won their third consecutive game by shutout scoring three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put away the Bulldogs.

Burbank 10 Hoover 0

Caitlyn Brooks went 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. Bridgette Pisa was 3 for 3 with a double and RBI, Jazmin Orozco had a double and 2 RBIs and Sabrina Steward had a hit with 2 RBIs. Brooks tossed a one-hitter with no walks and struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced.

Burroughs 7 Arcadia 0

Presley Miraglia fired a no-hitter and came within an out of a perfect game. With two outs in the top of the seventh, Miraglia hit a batter. She recorded the no-hitter on the very next batter. Miraglia also had a double and triple. Michelle Santiago knocked in 3 RBIs as the Lady Indians scored two runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings to win going away against the Apaches.

Burbank 9 Crescenta Valley 0

Caitlyn Brooks threw a complete game allowing 4 hits, 0 walks and striking out 12 batters. She had a bases loaded triple as well. Flores, Velazquez and Hannah Talavera (home run) recorded 4 hits each. Flores also scored 4 runs. Talavera threw a five inning complete game shutout giving up 3 hits, 2 walks and striking out 4 batters. The Lady Indians scored 10 runs in the first inning and seven apiece in the third and fourth innings to roll to the win.
